The Advocacy Project is an independent, rights based organisation which believes that everyone has the right to take part fully in society. We support individuals to know their rights and have their voices heard in relation to the issues that are important to them, in order for them to be able to make informed choices. The Advocacy Project work with various client groups, and geographical areas including;- East Renfrewshire: adults 16+ affected by disability; Glasgow Mental Health: adults 16-64 years with a mental health issue; Glasgow physical disability: adults 16-64 years with a physical disability; Glasgow Older People: adults 65+ years with physical health impairment physical disability or mental health issue; North Lanarkshire: adults 16-64 years affected by disability; and South Lanarkshire: 16-64 years with a mental health issue, adults 65+ in hospital and community. Where participation is limited due to ill-health, an advocate will ensure that individuals are treated with dignity and respect and their wishes as far as known are appropriately considered. The Advocacy Project has experience working with individuals affected by Autism. Some staff has had Autism awareness training. The type of advocacy offered is one to one professional advocacy and group/collective advocacy. The Advocacy groups served are all adult care groups. We are an issue based service and provide support to individuals where there are relevant concerns in relation to an individual's quality of life, their right to freedom, dignity, choice and control: Mental Health; Adult Support and Protection; Adults with Incapacity; Human Rights and Equality issues; Discrimination; Criminal justice; Parental advocacy for Child Protection; Employment; Education; and Welfare support in relation to attending medical assessments for Personal Independent Payments and Employment and Support Allowance..
