Amanda Hind Autism & SEND Consultant
Amanda has a unique perspective of autism as she is autistic (diagnosed as an adult), her children (young adults) are autistic, she specialises in teaching autistic children, and she is a doctoral autism researcher. She is a highly experienced teacher; and has taught in mainstream primary and secondary schools, special schools, and alternative provisions. She is also a qualified SENCo (Special Educational Needs Coordinator).
Although no longer school-based, Amanda still enjoys working with children and young people, and specialises in SEND tutoring for children of all ages, and mentoring for neurodivergent adults, young adults, and teenagers. Amanda is also an experienced autism speaker, trainer and consultant, having travelled across the country to deliver talks and training sessions on a wide variety of topics to a range of attendees, including parents and professionals from education, health and the care sector.
Amanda is neuroaffirming, and aims to help other people develop their understanding of autism and neurodiversity, to develop insights into what it is really like to be autistic, and to know how best to support autistic people; and so she offers a variety of services for a range of needs. Amanda speaks at conferences and events on a range of topics including her experiences of being autistic, parenting autistic children, teaching and supporting autistic people, and autistic women and girls. Amanda's training sessions are designed for different groups of participants, including parents, professionals from education, health or social care, and employers. She offers training, workshops and webinars ranging in length from 2 hours to 2 full days. Topics include autism and anxiety, supporting autistic students, and autism and ethnicity.
Amanda provides mentoring services for autistic adults, young adults and teenagers. Her mentoring is unique because it is by an autistic person for autistic people. Sessions are led by the needs of the client. Amanda offers 1:1 tuition for students who need a little extra help or who are being home educated. She specialises in tutoring autistic students or those with SEND. Sessions are adapted according to individual need. Amanda offers bespoke services catered to individual needs; including designing new training programmes and developing personalised support for families and individuals. She works with the client to create the service they desire.
