Autism Initiatives Outreach Education Support (OSSME)

Autism Initiatives UK

OSSME provides a unique service delivery system which acts as a support framework for children and young people with ASC, their families , carers and the staff within the educational, work and other settings. Our innovative work is recognised locally, nationally and internationally.

Our work is characterised by highlighting good practice already in evidence; recommending, demonstrating and modelling practical strategies; engineering individualised resources; and offering various models of training.

OSSME has developed service level agreements to support children and young people with ASC working in partnership with other professionals:

•5 steps to service individual intervention,
•7 steps to service transition,
•Socialisation in practice (SIPS),
•Personal tutorials and talk time,
•1 to 1 individualised work with the student,
•Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) in schools, colleges and other settings. .

Bespoke training is ASC specific and is delivered at the level to match the client or delegate profile which includes:

•Practitioners from education,
•Health and Social Care,
•Voluntary organisations,
•Private companies,
•Parents. .

OSSME staff keep up to date with accredited training to maintain their own continuing professional development and to further enhance OSSME's services, including the provision of external accredited courses.

OSSME contributes to the work carried out for the Not in Education or Employment (NEET) group and offers a consultancy service which can provide ASC specific advice to people in local authorities, nurseries, mainstream and special schools/units, colleges, work-based providers and employers. .
