Counselling with Helen

Are you looking for professional, yet compassionate, warm, gentle and respectful Autism and ADHD informed counselling, with someone who really understands? Who also lives Neurodiversity daily, and has experience of sitting in 'the clients seat' too?

I'm proud to offer you a confidential, empathic and truly accepting safe space, to talk about the things that concern you, without the worry of being judged or burdening the other person.

As a later in life diagnosed Autistic/combined ADHD counsellor, my hope is through our work together, you will experience a deep and genuine empathy and understanding from me, if you're feeling overwhelmed, isolated or struggling with life - I've been there too.

Whatever your worries, I embrace them all:

  • Are you feeling misunderstood?
  • Lost or stuck?
  • Like you don't fit in & nobody really "gets you"?
  • Feel like you're living in chaos?
  • Stressed?
  • Burntout?
  • Depressed/anxious/low self-esteem?
  • Having work/friendship/relationship problems?
  • Have suicidal ideation/feel suicidal?
  • Wondering whether you may be Autistic/ADHD?
  • Or support someone who is?
  • Feeling overwhelmed with the thoughts of the diagnosis process?
  • Recently diagnosed & left thinking "now what?"

How can counselling help?

Counselling can help and support you in making changes, in understanding yourself and your situation more deeply. Together, we will begin to find a way forward, at your pace, and develop the right solutions for you. Feeling truly heard and understood by another, can validate your emotions and experiences; I listen not just to respond, but to truly understand how life is for you.

Our sessions are an opportunity to momentarily step away from day-to-day life; to give yourself the gift of time and space to begin rediscovering 'you'. If it is helpful for you, I welcome any questions surrounding my experience of being Neurodiverse; sometimes just having someone else say "...yeah, I get that / feel that / experience that too" can be incredibly powerful. I fully respect the sessions are about you; I will therefore always await your invitation, to share my experience.

Feel ready to get started?

Or maybe still nervous and unsure? Whether you would like to book a session, or ask the million questions you may have, please get in touch. I can assure you of a warm and prompt reply and I can usually begin sessions with new clients, within 1 week of making initial contact.

Counselling is for everyone and can be literally life changing.

A little about me ...

I am a fully qualified and insured Person-Centred Counsellor, achieving a First-Class (Hons) Degree in Person-Centred Counselling from the University of Derby.

I am a member of the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP), membership number 00965651, and I work within their ethical framework and professional boundaries. I have a full, clean, enhanced DBS check and alongside my private practice, I work as the school counsellor for a local High School. I also worked extensively with adults during my 3+ years training.

I currently work with Neurotypical and Neurodiverse (Autistic, ADHD, ADD, Dyspraxia and Dyscalculia) adults and children (11 yrs+), in both the traditional sense and creatively. Being Autistic/ADHD myself, Autism & ADHD, I would say, are my speciality.
