Mr Kenneth Evans

Mr Kenneth Evans

I am a qualified and Accredited Psychodynamic Counsellor and Psychotherapist with many years counselling experience working within the charity and educational sectors. My work has always been based on people’s experience of the world and their difficulty in finding their own place within it. Over many years of experience and study around neurodiversity and particularly autism my personal understanding of my own neurodiversity and those relationships around me in undiagnosed autism in family and friends has developed my professional work. I now understand myself as a person with undiagnosed autism. In my work the need to take a more wholistic approach to people’s experience (nurture) and their neurobiology (nature) and how both impact the individual. Without any intention or agenda on my part, I realised many years ago that the majority of my work was mostly with undiagnosed neurodiverse clients.

Over the decades I have worked with individual adults aged from 16 to 80+ for a vast range of issues, and have worked with couples where they need to jointly explore aspects of their relationship. I bring this range of experience to my counselling work, but in every situation I aim to treat every client with respect and as a unique individual.

I have been working with individuals in a one to one environment since 1990, and bring that history of experience into my private practice counselling work. After training for 5 years, I attained my Post Graduate Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling. This training was initially accredited by the Westminster Pastoral Foundation (WPF) and subsequently by the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC). I achieved my Accreditation with the BPC after successfully completing post-qualifying work through the Associate Program.  I now work exclusively in private practice, and provide counselling for individual adults, couples, and employees on behalf of businesses through their EAP and EWS.

With my background in educational settings, my work can sometimes be a more psyco-educational and coaching service around an individuals neurobiology, as and when required by the individual client.

Working with Individuals

In addition to my initial training in open-ended psychodynamic counselling, I have trained in psychodynamic time-limited therapy, and worked at The University of Gloucestershire Counselling Service working with young adults for time-limited counselling (12 sessions maximum). I combine those skills and experience to work in a way that is best for each client.

Working with Couples

I have had considerable postgraduate training in counselling couples in order to understand better the significant difference in working with couples. I feel that this additional training is fundamental to working with couples as the work is so different to one to one. Couples have to commit to a minimum of four sessions, please see our couples page for more details.

Working with Employees and Staff

I also provide counselling to businesses for leadership teams, staff, and employees through our EWS Employee Wellbeing Service or EAP Employee Assistance Programme. If you are in business and would like to know more, please get in contact to discuss options.

Supervision

I am a supervisor of qualified counsellors and those in training at Compass Point Counselling, providing psychodynamic based supervision for individual counsellors and therapists, and small groups. Please see our Supervision page for more details.

Compass Point Counselling

I am now based at Compass Point Counselling in our welcoming, confidential and dedicated consulting room in the heart of Ross on Wye. I now work more online using Zoom, nationally and internationally. (Skype, or FaceTime is possible if necessary.) On your first appointment we can discuss and explore together the issues that have brought you to counselling, what you hope for, and we can decide together on how we might best work together.

If you would like to arrange to see me for an initial assessment session, please phone 01989 940023 or make contact with us at Compass Point through the Contact page and you can request me in your message. I retain a portion of my practice for clients on a low income and am therefore sometimes able to offer a reduced fee depending on your financial situation.
