Norfolk Opportunities Centre

Norfolk Opportunities Centre

Autism Anglia

The Norfolk Opportunities Centre based in Dereham, Mid-Norfolk, provides day opportunities both within the centre and externally in the local community, undertaking a range of activities exclusively for adults with autism. People who attend the centre live either within one of our Autism Anglia’s residential homes, with their families or carers and many who live independently within the wider community.

The atmosphere within the centre is relaxed, never feels crowded, offering personalised activities and projects in a low arousal environment. Groups are kept to a minimum ratio of one instructor to two people and also offer a bespoke one-to-one support package for people with higher complexed support needs.

All activities are assessed and tailored to meet the needs of the individual and include a variety of skill-based and leisure sessions such as crafts, art and textiles, sports, computers and horticulture. The life skills department supports people to develop and improve their independent living skills. Sessions cover everyday tasks such as cooking and meal planning, money management, timekeeping, road awareness, travelling on public transport, confidence building, shopping and supporting with voluntary work placements.

There is a sensory and relaxation room accessible to people attending our centre, which offers individuals a quiet and safe place to support and manage any anxieties they may be experiencing.

Participation in community-based venues such as our local leisure centres, cinema, supermarkets and cafes supports individuals from being socially isolated and to be actively involved within their community, something the Opportunities Centre is extremely passionate about.
