Oversands School
Witherslack Group
The school is located in a rural mansion house with extensive grounds to provide a learning environment. The school has facilities to meet the educational and broader needs of young people. Wherever possible, young people are encouraged to become involved in the wider community. Oversands School provides a standard of residential accommodation and leisure facilities, which are constantly being updated to meet the needs of the young people.
The role of education within the 24 hour curriculum is seen as paramount in order for young people to succeed, whether it be through the academic, vocational, work-related or sporting/leisure curriculum. Emphasis is placed on pupils who have specific learning difficulties in literacy and numeracy. There is a learning support department and intervention programme.
The overall ethos of the school is geared towards providing a caring environment within which emotional literacy, personal development and independence is promoted. The school has both higher dependency educational and residential facilities with increased staffing ratios to meet the requirements of a range of complex needs including Asperger syndrome and communication difficulties. There is a full time speech and language therapist, nurse, part-time Educational Psychologist and counsellor.
Oversands School provides for both day and residential placements and can be part of a package with our group children's homes to provide a 52-week care and education package.
