Peterhouse School

Autism Initiatives UK
Peterhouse School is a non-maintained special school for young people with autism/Asperger syndrome. The school offers day, weekly, termly and 52 week residential services with additional respite being offered. The young people are educated in class groups each having a maximum of eight pupils with a basic staffing ratio of two pupils per member of staff. There is a separate further education department and an off-site Further Education (FE) College. The school caters for young people aged 5-19 years. A number of specialist teachers are employed eg music, art, Information and Computer Technology (ICT). There are two Speech & Language Therapists (SALT) and a full time Occupational Therapist. The school avails itself of the services of a physiotherapist, clinical psychologist and all relevant attendant services. There are two registered residential homes all within 2 to 3 miles of the school. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils occasionally. In principle the school uses the Structure, Positive (approaches and expectations), Empathy, Low arousal, Links (SPELL) framework. Other facilities provided by the school are a SALT base, media, design and technology and leisure. We hold an Artsmark Gold Award and the International School (Foundation) Award. The school has been judged as Outstanding by Ofsted for the last ten years (inspected in 2005, 2009 and 2014).
