The Psychotherapeutic Counsellor

The Psychotherapeutic Counsellor

Hi,

My name is Janey and I am a self-identifying autistic adult, a parent to an autistic teenager with a neurodiverse family and have 16 years experience of understanding and supporting an autistic person.

I am additionally a BACP accredited and qualified counsellor and psychotherapist and I am currently finishing my degree that is focussing on the experiences of autistic adults in therapy and working with young people in a creative way to further enhance my knowledge and promote inclusivity to more clients.

I run my own private practice and all of my time is allocated to my private practice clients.

I work with all adults on a range of subjects, but as this listing is for N.A.S, the focus is on adults either diagnosed or self-identifying as autistic or neurodivergent.

I offer pre and post diagnosis support and help people to form and understand their own identity and self acceptance.

I work with clients on feelings of anxiety, low mood, feeling different, processing trauma, relationships, family issues, self-esteem, self-acceptance, bereavement or anything else you may wish to talk about.

I offer lots of different ways of working including traditional face to face therapy, creative therapy including arts, crafts and sand tray for those who find talking more challenging or overwhelming. I also offer outdoor therapy or walk and talk therapy.

I also have experience of working with adults with a learning disability whether that it with an accompanying autism diagnosis or another neurological condition.

I am based in Chelmsford and sessions are traditionally one hour, but can be lengthened for those who prefer or shortened if needed.

Mr personal philosophy is that face to face has the most therapeutic value whether that be talking, creative or outside and this is how I work with the majority of my clients. I can offer telephone or video counselling for those not able to get to Chelmsford depending on personal needs and the aim of your therapy.

I work in a dialogical way which focuses on an authentic and two-way interaction and I will work with you as a person, rather than solely focussing on your symptoms. Through open two-way conversation, I will help you to explore your experiences, relationships, emotions and thought processes in order that you feel supported and understood.

From 2025, after I have completed my Honours Degree, I will be working with teenagers and this will be on an in-person basis only initially. Please keep an eye of my website for further details which will be announced early 2025.
