Swalcliffe Park School
Swalcliffe Park School is a specialist residential and day school for autistic boys, based in the peaceful village of Swalcliffe near Banbury in Oxfordshire. We provide up to 76 places for boys who are aged 10-19 and have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) from their Local Authority. Residential places are offered on a two-weekly boarding basis. The school is a non-maintained Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO).
We work with a wide range of Local Authorities from across the country and are always happy to hear from new ones.
We have developed a framework and approach to improve Quality of Life outcomes for our students and families, now and in the future. We listen to student and family voice to get a sense of the issues of importance to them to see how we can best provide support and improve outcomes.
Our highly experienced onsite Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Clinical Psychologists are integrated within the school to provide neurodiversity affirming support to students, and families, through a trauma-informed lens. This may be on a whole school, group, individual or consultation basis. The Therapists and Clinical Psychologists work alongside the educational, residential and leadership teams to ensure best outcomes for our students’ Quality of Life, often conducting joint sessions, joining lessons or evening activities and representing a therapeutic / clinical perspective within the Senior Leadership team.
Our curriculum offers a wide range of academic, vocational and therapeutic support, as well as a comprehensive careers pathway which runs throughout the school to help all our young people and their families make informed choices about the future after Swalcliffe Park School. Class sizes are maximum of 6 students who would be supported by a specialist teacher and learning support assistant in each lesson.
We have been consistently rated as an 'Outstanding' provider from OFSTED since 2011, most recently in 2024, and have achieved the prestigious 'Beacon Award' from the National Autistic Society as a result of our exceptional work and innovative Quality of Life Framework, which has profoundly influenced how families and advocates understand and support autistic individuals. As a result, we have been invited to participate in a number of national and international research projects and invited to speak at conferences in different countries to share best practice.
Swalcliffe Park School leads the Quality of Life Network, which was established to support like-minded schools and colleges who wish to implement a Quality of Life Approach. The network is focussed on best practice sharing, training and resource development and action research.
