Wexham School

Wexham School

The name of the unit for children with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is the Autism Resource Base. Wexham is a mainstream secondary school and college with 800 pupils. The school has sports college status and is heavily oversubscribed. There is a strong child-centred ethos and a positive approach to behaviour management. This is a socially inclusive school with a strong parent-school partnership. The Autism Resource Base offers a secure setting from which pupils are supported as they access the majority of their academic curriculum in mainstream classes. Residential school trips alongside mainstream peers are an integral part of this provision. Volunteers may possibly be accepted to work with the pupils subject to Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) and experience. The base uses the Structure, Positive (approaches and expectations), Empathy, Low arousal, Links (SPELL) framework.
