The M Word (Emotional Problem Solving) CIC

The M Word (Emotional Problem Solving) cic is a not for profit Community Interest Company (CIC). We are the only cic in the UK that offers a one stop shop that supports all ages with mental health around neuro-diverse presentations. Our one stop shop service provides Mental Health assessments, Initial Screening to support as evidence (including ADOS-Stage 1), EHCP/IEP, therapy, coaching and training in Mental Health and Autism (including ADHD and PDA). Being an ex-CAMHS nurse, I use screening tools that are recognised following NICE guidelines within the NHS and Social Services.

We support young people with anxiety, depression, self-harming and suicidal ideation who are struggling to access CAMHS. Rather than lengthy waits, or being rejected, we can support by completing assessments and provide therapy following NICE guidelines. On average, 40% of our caseload at any one time are situationally mute. Our therapy is about restoring individual's self-esteem rather than treatment, as our Autistic young people need to understand their difficulties are related to their environment and unmet learning needs than them being a problem.

We also provide coaching for parents. This came about for a number of reasons with many parents complaining of being blamed for their child's negative behaviour and subsequently being sent on inappropriate parenting courses that did not address the issues from a SEN perspective. Other reasons might be that parents know how to parent, but their parenting skills are not working with their child with a PDA profile. Other parents still are relieved, after a lengthy wait, of their child receiving a diagnosis, but then are cast adrift with no advice and support as to how best to support their newly diagnosed child. We offer 'The Expert Parent' program which is loved by the parents who have attended their bespoke course.

We also do considerable research and designing courses that combine mental health and neurodiverse information and advice available to both professionals and parents. Our courses are CPD (Continuing Professional Development) accredited. These are informative and provide detailed understanding as well as practical advice.

Telephone, videolink, text, or email support continues to be offered throughout the therapy.
